How MES is Developing Quality Global Suppliers

One of MES’s guiding philosophies is “To Develop Quality Suppliers Across the Globe.”  One of MES’s key metrics for analyzing the quality of our parts is Quality PPM.  Quality PPM is measured in “quantity of parts rejected per million parts shipped.”  MES prides itself on having committed supplier partners and genuinely feels that they are only as good as their suppliers.  To validate this philosophy, MES is investing in our supplier relationship.

MES has created a new position of “Gage and Process Development Engineer” and hired a sound process engineer with deep expertise in process setup, tooling, gages, and poka-yoke.  This engineer’s primary and only responsibility is to develop and train MES’s China team for quality processes and poka-yoke them to ensure quality products.  Our engineer, Steve, made his second trip in last 2 months and went through detailed Kaizen review with MES’s key suppliers for:

  • Review of aesthetic standards for all MES castings, with the goal of reducing aesthetic rejects down to zero.
  • Training including MES’s quality engineers, supplier inspectors, supplier operators and supplier quality managers.
  • Training including developing our inspection process, fixtures, tables, and ensuring all lighting required to verify good quality parts.

MES team is very optimistic that this training will pay rich dividends in improving supplier performance and ensuring low quality PPM scores with our customers.
